Estate Syrah by Mega Spileo is an elegant dry red wine. The grapes are produced in the Single Vineyard Mega Spileo Estate, an organic mountainous vineyard at 780 m – 820 m altitude in Kalavryta overlooking the Vouraikos Gorge, marking the wine as PGI Achaia. The Vineyard Estate with its unique terroir and high altitude, is ideal for the cultivation of a classic and elegant French Syrah.
The grapes are harvested early in October, and after fermentation is completed, the wine is matured for at least 2 years in new French oak barrels and remains for at least another 2 years in the bottle. To preserve its flavour, the wine does not undergo stabilisation and filtering.
Estate Mega Spileo Syrah PGI has deep ruby with blue hues. On the nose aromas of black pepper, black berries and dried flowers mingle with hints of leather and smokiness. On the palate is full-bodied mouth, well-rounded with elegant tannins and long and pleasant after-taste.

Ideally served with dishes based on red meats, BBQ as well as matured, spicy cheeses.

*Careful transfer of the wine to a decanter before serving is recommended, to avoid sediments and allow the flavour profile to better express itself.

**It’s suitable for extensive ageing in the bottle.

Mega Spileo means Large Cave, and it took its name from its location near Kalavryta in Peloponnese, where there is a large cave and a Monastery, the second oldest continuously occupied religious place in the world. The vineyard belonged to the Monastery, where the monks making wine since the 15th century until it was completely abandoned in the beginning of the 20th century when the current owners took over and revitalised this historic vineyard.
