Mavro Kalavritino 50% and Merlot 50% blend give an exceptional dry red wine, produced by Mega Spileo Winery. The grapes are grown in mountainous vineyards at an altitude of 700-800m, at the surroundings of the winery in north Peloponnese, marking it as a PGI Achaia wine. The wine is made by blending the two varieties which have been harvested in the late September harvest.

Mega Spileo means Large Cave, and it took its name from its location near Kalavryta in Peloponnese, where there is a large cave and a Monastery, the second oldest continuously occupied religious place in the world. The vineyard belonged to the Monastery, where the monks making wine since the 15th century until it was completely abandoned in the beginning of the 20th century when the current owners took over and revitalised this historic vineyard.
