This type of wine is called orange by Mega Spileo Winery due to it’s color. It’s a dry white wine of varietal composition Roditis 50% – Assyrtiko 50% Assyrtiko, produced in mountainous vineyards surrounding the Mega Spileo Winery, at an altitude of 800-900 metres, marking the wine as PGI Achaia.
The wine remains in barrels 16 months where the wine matures and evolves naturally. Then it’s carefully removed from the barrels and bottled without the use of additives or filtration. The wine matures in the bottle for at least another 24 months to develop its complex and mature nature.

Orange Wine by Mega Spileo has light orange with brown hues. On the nose it has aromas of dried white flowers with notes of spice, botanical minerals and hints of toastiness. On the palate is fresh and elegant, with rounded tannins and acidity and a l ong and cool finish.

Ideally served with fatty fish, meats with creamy or white sauces, ripe cheeses

*Careful transfer of the wine to a decanter before serving is recommended, to avoid sediments and allow the flavour profile to better express itself.

**It’s suitable for extensive ageing in the bottle.

Mega Spileo means Large Cave, and it took its name from its location near Kalavryta in Peloponnese, where there is a large cave and a Monastery, the second oldest continuously occupied religious place in the world. The vineyard belonged to the Monastery, where the monks making wine since the 15th century until it was completely abandoned in the beginning of the 20th century when the current owners took over and revitalised this historic vineyard.
