Malagousia dry white wine, by Mega Spileo Winery, produced in organic vineyards of the Trapeza plateau and Vrosthena, at altitudes of 850 m and 800 m respectively, in Diakopto, Peloponnese, marking the wine as PGI Achaia. Malagousia is an Ancient Greek variety that it revived quite recently. The grapes are harvested early September and the fermentation is done with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks, at low temperatures. The wine stays in contact with its fine lees for 4 to 5 weeks, and is gently stirred.
Malagousia PGI by Mega Spileo has light yellow with greenish hues. On the nose it is elegant with aromas of unripe apricot, white flowers and discreet hints of basil. On the palate is refined with balanced acidity and fruity after-taste.
Ideally served with seafood, snail dishes, risotto & pasta.

Mega Spileo means Large Cave, and it took its name from its location near Kalavryta in Peloponnese, where there is a large cave and a Monastery, the second oldest continuously occupied religious place in the world. The vineyard belonged to the Monastery, where the monks making wine since the 15th century until it was completely abandoned in the beginning of the 20th century when the current owners took over and revitalised this historic vineyard.
